Chemdawg

Strain Review: Chemdawg

You might be surprised to learn Chemdawg’s genetics have inspired strains such as Sour Diesel and OG Kush. Its potency is well famed, with the average THC level of 20-25%. The strongest effect has been reported to be full-body relaxation, with long lasting effect. If you’re a grower, the average yield for bud is 25-30 grams per plant, and requires a moderate amount of fertilizer, with a flowering period of roughly 63 days.
Nuggets can be bright, almost acid green, with plenty of the fuzzy orange hairs and glittering trichomes. Other batches, however, have shown as having dark purple leaves throughout. They tend to be dense and a little sticky, but break apart just fine in a grinder.
Some users suggest Chemdawg for strong relief from symptoms of PTSD, or for those who really need a chill day. Try it in a vaporizer for high-impact with less of the skunk-stink combustion would produce. Nerve tension, stress, and depression should all melt away when you try a few hits of Chemdawg. It’s said to be a very smooth ride, with no heavy coughing or instant dry mouth. Some have felt it to unleash the floodgates for emotions, but that’s likely due to its tension-busting abilities. If you’re the type of person who could stand to open up a little, ease the way with this strain.
The smoke produces a very socially charged high, perfect for hanging out with friends or enjoying a nature date with a significant other. It can be head-clearing, so enjoy a space of time free from paranoia and anxiety. Great booster for creative crunches, so light up before tackling a project you’ve been stuck on for a while. A bit on the funnier side, one user reviews Chemdawg, “[this strain] makes me eat like a baby dinosaur… I don’t even chew.” So, grab your favorite snack, settle in, and remember to chew thoroughly (if you can)!

Northern Lights

Strain Review: Northern Lights

Nothern Lights has been mother to quite a number of famous strains, like Super Silver Haze. NL herself is one of the most well-known, oldest indicas in cannabis history. It’s known well for fast and easy growth/flowering, voluminous buds, and the instantly classic, recognizable body high. It was first produced and grown in Holland, in the late 80s.
The effects of Northern Lights can be higher on the psychoactive end. You might feel dreamy, relaxed, and a comfortable laziness that allows you to tell your inner critic to shut up and sit down. Let yourself sink into the lack of muscle pain and tension for once! Use Northern Lights for sleeplessness and stress, and hopefully both troubles will feel far off in the distance.
The scent of Northern Lights is reminiscent of pine needles and fresh dirt, which doesn’t sound great at first but I’ve found it to be a very grounding strain. While I like ones that send me soaring, being able to stay focused and appreciate all aspects of the high are qualities in my preferred strains. On the more extreme end, users have found relief in Northern Lights where they could not with heavy opiates. Plus, cannabis is much safer and non-habit-forming!
Some have found the thought flow with this weed to be ‘effortless.’ I agree– it’s an excellent strain for daydreaming (or more seriously, meditation), and it’s not one of those things where the day just gets away from you without you knowing what happened. I didn’t forget anything when I tried Northern Lights, either. Most strains have the effect of having a great time, and then a sort of tension-memory wipe the next morning. No such thing here! I was able to keep focus and remember all the plans that I was making mentally, the next day. GREAT news for folks that suffer from ADHD and other related neurological disorders.

Strain Review: Maui Wowie

As you can guess from its name, Maui Wowie is a tropical strain that’s sure to amaze and delight with stress relief like no other. Obviously born and bred in Hawaii, Maui Wowie is worldwide at this point, and a very popular strain for folks who like to be active and need a boost to help them get outside. For growers, this strain is best suited to tropical and warm temperatures, with plenty of sunlight.
The taste is understandably a sweet and sour pineapple, with notes of candy and lemon lime citrus. Pair it with Mango Kush for a scrumptious fruit salad that will take you to whole new levels of relaxation. Oddly enough, one user describes the affects as being “like being in kangaroo’s pouch while it’s jumping,” whatever that means. Other folks have felt great mental clarity, and that they’re capable of consuming Maui Wowie while working without losing any productivity. Great motivation!
I liked how in control I felt when trying this strain. Everyone was right about its delicious flavor and scent, and I was able to keep my train of thought while being able to let go of tensions and enjoy the feeling. I suggest having some Maui Wowie in the middle of the day, just after lunch so that you can avoid the typical afternoon energy crash. Head outside to soak up some sun, climb a mountain, or chill out by a river.
Medical patients typically use Maui Wowie for busting stress and depression, while others find escape from insomnia or exhaustion. Like with most weeds, you might experience dry mouth and eyes, so stay hydrated with some fruit juice or coconut water for a truly tropical, vacation-like experience. Legendary, multidimensional, “wowie”, are just a few ways people have described this wonderful strain.

golden Goat

Strain Review: Golden Goat

Golden Goat was a glorious accident birthed in Topeka, Kansas, when a female Island Sweet Skunk was pollinated by a male Hawaiian Romulan. Many would say it was the perfect happenstance, as Golden Goat is very strong, sweet, and effective. A hybrid for sure, some batches err on the side of the Hawaiian sativa to produce a great whole-body high without a mind haze or confusion.
Batches often appear light green and even pink in color, with a very fruit scent and taste. Others may find it sour and spicy, with hints of citrus or the good-ole taste of earth. Bud size tends to be thick and very hairy, with some coated in a fine, cheesy dust that is perfect for kief collectors. The beauty of this strain is it’s reasonably high CBD content, usually topping at 1.07%. With that, expect muscle relaxation and pain relief.
Some have recommended using this strain for when you want to relax without a huge energy boost, and others recommend staying at home (never, ever drive if you don’t feel capable of doing so!) and finding out the effects for yourself. Other highlights include a social uplift, great fruity taste, and positive creative moments. Try it for focused meditation or introspection, or if you’re having trouble getting out of a funk.
One user describes their experience with Golden Goat in three stages: a very energetic come up, with a boost in desire to be social or creative, with focus to complete tasks and projects; next, a’sudden realization’ of happiness and euphoria, like you’ve just remembered a great moment from earlier and that the feeling has been building for a while. Then, for this particular user, they experienced a heavy crash, but just in a way that made it easy to fall asleep. If you’re planning a full day, try a few puffs of Golden Goat to get you through and ensure a good, solid night’s sleep afterward.

Lemon Haze

Strain Review: Lemon Haze

Just take a wild guess at how this strain might taste. Before it’s even ground up in the bowl, you’ll be able to both smell and taste the sweet, sharp notes of Lemon Haze, a popular sativa choice. Like ‘fresh peeled lemon slices’, pucker up and try a toke. It produces a very smooth, long-lasting high, with all the best qualities you get from any sativa strain. For some, they’ve found it to be a cure for depression, a lack of appetite, and for others, great relief from aches and pains.
With a respectable THC content ranging from 15-20%, this strain is also known for its fairly high CBD rate, at .38%. Understandably, this is where the pain relief comes from. Try starting off your day with Lemon Haze if you suffer from low energy or have trouble keeping positive moods up. The high lasts long, as said before, but it also comes on slow, and very gentle. You may experience a change in visual perception–that is, things could become clearer, brighter, and the euphoric sensation may bring on a cheer to last you the day.
Some folks find themselves to be very chatty or talkative after trying Lemon Haze. This strain might be the thing to take your next group hang out to a whole new level of fun and adventure (so long as you’re responsible, of course). Try it when you feel stress is too much to handle–it’ll be no match for the powers of Lemon Haze. Others find a tolerable balance of cerebral effects and a relaxing body high, so that they can focus on the task at hand without soaring into space.
The buds are sometimes small, dense little nuggets, but don’t be mistaken–they’re still quite powerful. Ranging from beautiful greens to bright yellows, the leaves are coated with orange or amber colored hairs that give off its distinct citrus scent. Overall, the stickiness, scent, and flavor remind me of Lemonheads. The taste packs a whopping punch of sourness, so try pairing it with a sweeter strain at the end of a night for a delicious bedtime “snack.”

Pineapple Express

Strain Review: Pineapple Express

You definitely know of the movie Pineapple Express by this point, but you’ll be impressed and not disappointed to try out the strain the movie is named for. If you’ve tried Trainwreck, think of it as a precursor to what you’ll experience with a dose of PE– after all, Pineapple Express is a hybrid of Trainwreck and Hawaiian. It’s incredibly hard hitting and long lasting, so plan accordingly. An excellent blend of the energizing effects of sativa, with creativity and uplifted thoughts, and the pain relief of indica.
Obviously, this strain tastes of pineapple, but it’s also sweet, with hints of apple, mango, and even pine. The whiff is mouth-watering, and easy to see why it’s an instant classic. Enjoy a few crushed buds rolled up in a fruity blunt wrap, and it’s the best dessert you could imagine. The buds themselves are sticky, coated in trichomes, and often almost yellow in color. Very dense, resiny, and stinky, you might even be tempted to lick your fingers after you break them up. One user says, the darker the bud, the stickier the resin, so good luck getting it off your hands!
The smoke is very smooth, and my personal favorite is through a clean water bong, lit with a match or wick. That way, the only thing you taste is the deliciously sweet fruit and crisp pine and cedar. It’s a calm directly afterwards, but not a couch lock. I felt energized, and like I could get up and keep going with the day if I chose to. The euphoria is tolerable (you ever had it where some strains just get you too happy? It can really shake with reality.), and all that means is, life still feels real; you just feel more capable. Some feel extreme relaxation without time becoming a trip, and others find a boost in appetite or a case of the giggles.
The high might creep in, especially if you take the actual smoking slowly. Careful for hitting it hard–rather than rip 3 or 4 hits in a row expecting to fall right into the high, take one medium-sized pull, then see how it feels in a few minutes. One user recommends starting with a fast-moving sativa strain, then trying Pineapple Express to ‘stretch it out.’ With any luck, you’ll feel symptoms of anxiety and depression start to melt away, and aspects of your true, happy self will come forward. For some, it’s a very visual high, with colors brightening and textures popping. Try a fat bowl out in your favorite secluded area of a park, on a mountain, or by a lake, and let nature unfold its wonders.

trainwreck

Strain Review: Trainwreck

Ideally, this sativa-strong hybrid will leave you in a state appropriate to its name. Said to be cerebral and ‘mind-bending’, Trainwreck is a blend of Mexican and Thai sativa, with Afghani indica for the sweet mellow qualities. It’s true genetic origins are a bit unknown, however, with constant debate about whether or not it’s a clone, its grow/flowering time, etc. With some batches you might be able to philosophize the end to world hunger, others, you might be land-locked to your living room. Regardless of it’s origins, with this top-shelf strain, you may find relief from anxiety, focus to control symptoms of ADHD, ADD, and PTSD, and great pain relief, due to its high THC content.
Bring yourself back to nature with a whiff of the buds; said to be both spicy and lemony sweet, Trainwreck smells of pine needles and soft earth. It is quite strong, and permeates a room, so choose your container appropriately if smell is something you need to be concerned over. The look of the buds is gorgeous, often bright electric green and plenty of fuzzy orange or brown hairs. They range from tight and compact, to decent, palm-sized logs. It all depends on the batch, which can also vary in strain effects due to its hybrid nature.
The worst you might feel from a puff of Trainwreck is dry mouth and eyes. Time dilation may also occur the higher the dose, so start small and see how you feel and how it handles. The last thing you’d want to do when looking for pain relief or a euphoric feeling is smoke too much, go overboard and land yourself in a state of paranoia or confusion. But that’s just a warning for first-timers! Go ahead and try the strains that interest you, and experiment to get the best results.
Medically speaking, many patients have sought Trainwreck for stress relief and to alleviate symptoms of depression. Migraines, arthritis, and joint pain are other ailments that may find peace after a few tokes. Others have found relief from eye pressure and fatigue, with Trainwreck being a top choice among medical patients. Many feel it to be a very euphoric high, and long-lasting. One user claims to feel “as if I am living my life in 3rd person, it kinda just unstressed everything in your current life.” I agree completely. With the experience of time moving strangely, or even backwards, it’s easy to separate from yourself and the causes of stress for just a little while.
You may feel hazed from indica-strong batches, but otherwise, look forward to a lack of fatigue and soreness. Others feel great increase in creativity and mental clarity, even leading to self-empowerment. I recall feeling like I could complete all of my projects, and even start new ones with fleshed out ideas and real, achievable goals. One user says, “I was even able to pass trigonometry while stoned.” So if that’s not indication of Trainwreck’s magical powers, I don’t know what else to say.

Green Crack

Strain Review: Green Crack (or Cush)

Due to some concerns over gaining a negative image of cannabis, Green Crack is also referred to as Green Cush. Understandable! When this hybrid expresses a dominance in sativa genes, the high is incredibly invigorating, mentally sharp, and focused. But not to worry, it’s cannabis and cannabis only. When the nuggets are green, boy are they green. Like tiny little limes, but crusty and coated in sugary trichomes. The flavor has been said to be fruity, with tones of mango. I’ve never had a batch like that, but it sounds amazing.
Medical patients like Green Cush for its affects on relieving stress and depression. With a taste like sour candy, GC is a good strain to use in tinctures, lozenges, or try it in a vaporizer. One of the most slow-creeping highs I’ve experienced in a hybrid, be careful how much you start out with. I’m guilty of this myself, but don’t go hard or the same way on every strain you try. Let Green Crush show you what it has to offer, without slamming face-first into a heavy high you can’t swim out of.
For later night needs, however, a bong rip of GC would likely do you fine. Experiment with how it makes you feel during different parts of the day. Sativa strong strains will be good for daytime use and folks with chronic anxiety or depression. Batches of GC that are more indica dominant might be better for relaxation and socialization. If you can find it, try using a high-indica breed in a group setting. Or, try it by yourself and go to a comedy or music show. Something with the potential for lots of visuals and entertainment.
Many have said it’s not a strain for beginners. You might lose your knees, forget time exists, or float away into hazy green abyss. It all depends on the batch you get. Veterans feel pain relief and can stop after just a few hits, and report the high lasting over a few hours. Others feel they gain confidence and motivation. When I tried it, I experienced the time warp others have described. Though, time always passes strangely when one consumes cannabis. A secret I’ve learned: if you can control your breath, you can control time. See if you can see what I mean, next time you’re out in fresh air and stoned off your box.

Sweet Tooth

Strain Review: Sweet Tooth

Like the name says, Sweet Tooth is by far one of the tastiest, most candy-like strains out there. Winner of the 2001 Cannabis Cup (first place!), Sweet Tooth shocks you with a fruity aroma, and its often an indica-strong hybrid, so you’ll feel euphoric and ready to chill right out. Before the smoke even hits you your mouth will water, just holding and smelling one of the sticky, dense nuggets.
Sweet Tooth was first created from a blend of Afghani, Nepalese, and Hawaiian. Sweet Tooth’s ability to lower stress and promote intense relaxation makes it perfect for those with tension or insomnia. Its literal sweetness may tempt you to make the best meal of your life, so look forward to a boost in appetite and creativity. The strain is happiness-inducing, from more than just consuming it.
The high produced is often sleepy when consumed in excess. Users report strong dry mouth and dry eyes, so be sure to have plenty of water or juice on hand when smoking Sweet Tooth. Some have found it eliminates anxiety, racing thoughts, and makes going to sleep much easier and more enjoyable. Commonly, Sweet Tooth has a THC content around 26%, so it’s powerful pain relief without being overwhelming or negative.
The berry aroma often indicates a great batch, and if it’s particularly dry you may do better to break the buds by hand. The buds are often bright, light green, orange haired, and frosted with loads of crystals. A grinder could turn all of your Sweet Tooth to sweet sugarplum dust, if you’re not careful. The intense flavor of Sweet Tooth makes it perfect if you like baking your cannabis into edibles, and concentrates could prove even tastier for dabs or other consumption methods.
Expect to feel mellow, euphoric, with little dizziness or paranoia. Sweet Tooth is less of a psychoactive strain, many have said, but that’s no reason to rule it out. The indica provides the pain relief and deep relaxation, while the sativa qualities provide a mood uplift, can prime you for munchies, and give you enough energy to be focused while enjoying whatever activity you’re doing.

Jack Herer

Strain Review: Jack Herer

Jack Herer is a strain you’d be hard-pressed to see in scarcity. Created and bred in the Netherlands in the 1990s, the strain was named for marijuana activist Jack Herer, author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes. With parents of Haze, Northern Lights #5 and Shiva Skunk, JH is a perfect blend of cerebral sativa highs and sweet, heavy in resin indicas. The smell bears strong notes of pine and wood, with some describing it as spicy or tangy.
The head high is strong with this one, being a sativa-dominant breed. Kick bouts of depression away with a few puffs, or start your day with a happy haze that can help you focus on whatever you need to do. A multi-time winner of the Cannabis Cup all over the country and other parts of the world, this strain is often copied or duped, but hard to beat the original. A great weed for vaping, for muscle relaxation, less coughing, and a more creative head buzz. Look forward to nothing but clear-headed bliss.
Hard, dense little nuggets break apart and leave your fingers sticky, so you may want to grind buds of Jack Herer. The stress relief the smoke can provide is off the charts, and combines three phenotypes of sativa and one indica to beat fatigue, pain, and headaches. Some folks experience a bit of paranoia in the first 20 minutes, but keep going and it’ll soon dissipate (or, put a little black pepper on your tongue! It’ll ground you enough to ease the worry or tension). Jack Herer can give you energy despite the sometimes hazy feeling a sativa strain can bring, so many users enjoy outdoor activities or engaging themselves creatively.
Typical Jack Herer crops are 18-23% THC with up to 0.2% CBD. High points of Pinene and Limonene (types of terpenes and flavonoids) are what give the buds their woodsy, fruity smell and taste. It’s grown best outdoors but plenty have cultivated indoors, though indoor growers should let the plants flower for longer. You’ll likely encounter this strain just about anywhere, including most coffee shops in Amsterdam (often one of the cheaper strains on the menus) — it’s a classic sure to satisfy.
