Most Common Medicinal Uses for Marijuana

Most Common Medicinal Uses for Marijuana

How Medicinal Marijuana Can Help
Almost have of the United States has already legalized the use of medical marijuana, with many more States and territories soon to join. Soon enough the majority of the country will allow medical marijuana use and for good reason. Marijuana has many health benefits that can help people cope with pain and stress associated with illnesses, chronic illnesses and certain injuries.  The medical industry has understood the benefits of weed for years, and now, slowly, the country is starting to allow people to self-medicate with it.
The fact is that weed can help people deal with many medical issues. But how can weed help the sick, ill or chronically ill? Weed contains CBD (Cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), both of which contain pain relieving, stress relieving, and various other properties that have medicinal affects and uses. So this means that weed is good for pain relief, stress relief, and it is even good for helping people to eat and sleep if they are having trouble eating or sleeping.

Ailments Weed Can Treat
Since we know that weed relieves pain and stress, basically any medical disorder that causes aches or pain or that makes one nervous or stressful can be treated with medicinal marijuana, but there are a number of disorders, maladies and diseases that medicinal marijuana is particularly helpful with. These include but are not limited to:

  • Glaucoma: Weed helps decrease pressure that builds up inside the eye, so it is helpful in the treatment of and even the prevention of glaucoma.
  • Lung disease: Unlike tobacco, which can destroy the lung’s capacity to hold air, studies have shown that pot usage can actually INCREASE lung capacity, as weed is actually good for the lungs.  Many people who smoked for years can actually benefit from smoking weed once they quit smoking tobacco products.
  • Cancer: While marijuana can’t directly treat existing cancer cells, many cancer patients benefit from the use of it in a number of ways. It can help keep cancer cells from spreading.  Also, weed does help alleviate associated pain. Then there’s the fact that people undergoing cancer treatment, especially radiation therapy, can fight nausea with it and even get their appetites back with the help of pot. Let’s not forget how stressful having cancer can be. Smoking weed can decrease stress levels as well.
  • Epileptic Seizures: Yes, as marijuana relaxes people and eases stress, pot can actually help prevent seizures.  Seizures occur under extreme stress and when the body and mind get quite wound up. Weed can help fight this process, staving off dangerous seizures in the process.
  • Anxiety Disorders:  This seems to be quite obvious, as THC decreases the effects of stress and anxiety first and foremost. Anyone who has ever smoked pot would recognize this right away. People who suffer from anxiety disorders, panic attacks and other stress and anxiety related disorders benefit greatly from smoking weed.

Side Effects
Unfortunately nothing is perfect, not even nature’s greatest drug. Overuse of weed can lead to problems and there are some negative side effects as there are with every type of medication known to man. If pot is smoked too much people can get depressed, lose their drive and motivation, and definitely develop emotional disorders. Memory issues will arise with extensive pot use. Also, contrary to popular belief, marijuana does have some addictive characteristics and can cause users who abuse it to become dependent on the drug over time. But any drug can be abused. This doesn’t mean that marijuana, with controlled use, can’t do many wonderful things for human suffering and the human body because it absolutely can.
weed

Ultimately people have to be responsible for their use and potential abuse of any drug, but marijuana has many more positive, beneficial characteristics than it does negative characteristics.  There are many people suffering from many aches, pains and illnesses that are extremely happy to see marijuana usage, especially medicinal marijuana usage, being legalized. It is about time the U.S. caught up to the rest of the world and let people legally get the relief that they need to cope with their pain and suffering.

3 Historical Occurrences Where Weed Might Have Led to a Better Outcome

3 Historical Occurrences Where Weed Might Have Led to a Better Outcome

While there’s no way to go back in time and change what has happened, it certainly would be nice to have the chance to go back to a few pivotal points in mankind’s timeline and change a few things for the better. Who wouldn’t like to go back in time and give Attila the Hun a spliff and tell him to relax a bit? Tell the mad Hun to smoke up and just let the stress ease from his body, save a few thousand lives in the process and channel all the anger into something more productive like civilization building.
Perhaps if Lee Harvey Oswald had a few tokes off of some relaxing herb he would have never went up into that book depository, let alone pulled the trigger and taken the life of JFK. Instead of being so wound up over the Cuban crisis he might have worked to import cigars and weed from the island nation instead of killing a promising young Commander in Chief in JFK.
Unfortunately we can’t go back in time, but we can look at a few points in history and easily see how the use of weed might have made humanity and our history much better off.  Here are three points in our history where a little bit of weed use could have benefited mankind, and the world might just be a better place today had it been smoked.
The Boston Massacre Could Have Been Stopped By Weed
The United States was going to separate from the British Empire sooner or later anyway, it is the nature of the American to rebel against authority and Britain was so far removed, powerful or not it just logistically didn’t make much sense. So while the war might not have been averted, the Boston Massacre itself likely could have, and then who knows, maybe a gentlemanly solution could have been reached. The British Sentry that got spooked by a forming mob was completely stressed out. It was cold and the troops that assembled were nervous. Also the mob was angry but had no real means or intention to attack the Redcoats. Had a nice relaxing peace pipe full of some primo weed been passed around, the stress would have dissipated and 5 wasted lives could have been saved.

The French Revolution: On Weed Eating Cake Would Have Sounded Like a Good Idea
Of course there was a lot at play when the French Revolution erupted, as the masses were tired of being ruled by a monarchy that claimed royalty or superiority over the people. Perhaps the overthrow of royalty, which was really a good thing, would not have been avoided. People have a right to govern themselves and no one is born superior to anyone else. But the violent upheaval of the French government might have been avoided, along with many beheadings and the bloody storming of the Bastille. The country was fiscally broke and King Louis and Marie Antoinette would likely have been evicted and cast from power, but if the mob had smoked a few nice, relaxing joints, they might not have gotten so upset when the last Queen of France said “Let them eat cake!” They might have simply taken her up on the invitation, which the mob misunderstood as an insult anyway. Cake, after all, is pretty tasty when you have the munchies.

Hitler’s Rise to Power
This one is most intriguing. Hitler was an evil wart on the backside of history. He caused millions of death, maybe more needless deaths than any people on the planet. He was an angry little man, all wound up, who suffered from syphilis, and many other anger issues and disorders. Starting with Adolph himself, smoking weed on a regular basis would likely have reduced his stress and anger, and made him less dangerous and vile of a person. It certainly would have treated some of the pain he dealt with, which made him excessively agitated, and likely some of the distorted thoughts that ran through his head would have been softened, forgotten or lost. But the biggest likelihood is that if the German people were routinely smoking pot, they would have laughed so hard at the crazy little angry, herky-jerky man, he never could have risen to power in the first place. What person, good and high, could take such an angry, goose-stepping, radical nutty fascist seriously?

Conscious Weed Rappers

Conscious Weed Rappers

Conscious Weed Rap?

You’re more likely to talk about social and political issues when sharing a blunt than when drinking with friends. Similarly, when listening to music while high you might be looking for deeper topics.
In the 90’s, walking into a head shop, you probably heard sublime playing through the speakers. Nowadays, you might hear A$AP Rocky or Wiz Khalifa. Marijuana seems to frequently make its way to mainstream music under the hip hop genre. Furthermore, more and more stoners and listening to the “conscious hip-hop” subgenre in 2016.
One source describes conscious or socially conscious hip-hop as “a sub-genre of hip-hop that challenges the dominant cultural, political, philosophical, and economic consensus. It aims to subtly inform the public of true political and social issues which are predominantly obscured by the mainstream media.”
“Hip-hop also gives these issues a wider audience base as it is coming from music artists which are extremely popular,” they added.
Here is a list of some stoner rappers who don’t shy from topics that are frequently ignored by the mainstream media.

Run The Jewels

Run the Jewels is a hip-hop duo consisting of the New York raised, talented rapper/producer, El-P and his southern companion Killer Mike. Separately and together these two cover topics such as police brutality, drone strikes, and more. They’re also not shy about their marijuana usage with lyrics like, “good pussy, good marijuana that be my medicine.” If you’re into or interested in the conscious hip-hop subgenre give Run the Jewels’ albums a listen. You won’t be disappointed.

Joey Bada$$

Joey Bada$$ has a song about getting high before going to high school. “Ya’ll go to high school, I go to school high!” He also makes songs about the trappings of fame rather than bragging about his fame. Joey’s songs cover topics like government surveillance, inequality, and more. If you’re looking for music that’ll make you think while you smoke check out Joey’s last album B4DA$$.

 Chance The Rapper

Chance the Rapper will provide you with both catchy tunes and his personal perspective on touchy subjects. Lyrics like “I’ve been riding around with my blunt on my lips, with the sun in my eyes and my gun on my hip” capture what life is like for Chance. Hailing from the southside of Chicago his hobbies include smoking weed and surviving. His music covers topics like witnessing the death of friend due to violence, getting suspended for smoking pot, his love for his grandma, and more. With Chance you really get the best of both worlds. You can get conscious hip-hop and songs to sing along to. If you’re looking for one of his projects to smoke out to try Acid Rap. If you want more catchy tunes check out his latest album Coloring Book.

Flatbush Zombies

The Flatbush Zombies traverse a deeper level of consciousness. The group is consists of three rappers, one of them, Erick Arc Elliot, is also their producer. Their music is full of references to psychedelic drugs like LSD and Mushrooms. The Zombies who hail from Flatbush, Brooklyn have everything you love about mainstream hip-hop like violence, women, and drugs while also covering more conscious topics. Sometimes they rap about their love for weed and other times pointing out inequalities. If you’re into psychedelics and hip-hop you’ll probably like the Flatbush Zombies. Even if you’re only into weed and hip-hop we recommend giving them a listen.

Marijuana use set to pass tobacco use in the United States

Marijuana use set to pass tobacco use in the United States

Marijuana use among American adults has more than doubled since 2002. In the last three years alone marijuana use has nearly doubled: from 7 percent of Americans in 2013 to 13 percent today. Marijuana use isn’t ahead of tobacco use yet but it’s definitely catching up. The number of regular marijuana users in the United States is at 33 million, with 40 million regularly using tobacco.
While marijuana use may be on the rise, tobacco use has been decreasing over the last few decades. According to the CDC, the current trends of cigarette smoking among high school students AND adults in the united states are at an all time low. Since 1965 cigarette smoking in adults has gone from 43% to 18% in 2014. Student smoking is at an all time low as well with only 16% of students smoking cigarettes in 2014.
More states have been legalizing marijuana. Half of the states in the country currently allow medical marijuana in some form. Four states currently have recreational marijuana laws and nine are voting to legalize marijuana this November. This green rush is what’ll likely lead marijuana use to surpass tobacco use in the United States.
“States’ willingness to legalize marijuana could be a reason for the uptick in the percentage of Americans who say they smoke marijuana, regardless of whether it is legal in their particular state,” Justin McCarthy wrote the poll for the poll service. “Gallup finds residents in the West – home of all four states that have legalized recreational marijuana use – are significantly more likely to say they smoke marijuana than those in other parts of the country.”
Even though pots becoming more acceptable in the West of the United States, many Eastern states are more conservative in their approach to marijuana. The Christian Science Monitor noted in May:
“Political leaders in liberal Massachusetts, the state that introduced an Obamacare-like system, balk at legalizing marijuana. And Vermont, home of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, criticized Massachusetts’s marijuana initiative as too lax and killed its own fledgling pot bill.
‘We in the Commonwealth would be better watching and learning from the case study of Colorado for five or six years, rather than just two,’ [Republican Massachusetts state Sen. Viriato deMacedo, one of nine senators who went on a four-day fact-finding mission to Colorado] tells The Christian Science Monitor in an interview.”
Although Massachusetts’ government seems to oppose the legalization of marijuana the states residents will be voting on recreational use via referendum in November, alongside California, Arizona, Nevada, and Maine.
The number of Americans who have tried marijuana is also on the rise according to the results of a poll. The poll asked Americans if they “ever happened to try marijuana?” The poll focused on the youth starting at the 1960s and the rate has increased by 11 percent in 1972 and 43 percent today.
The rising popularity of vaporizers and e-cigarettes has also decreased the number of cigarette smokers but this might change after the new FDA enforced rules. Vape shops will no longer be allowed to compare vapor products to cigarettes, so they can’t tell you it’s healthier. They cannot help customers troubleshoot their vaporizers so elderly customers who aren’t as tech savvy might not be able to figure out how to use the vaporizer. This will lead more people to turn back to cigarettes but experts still believe marijuana will surpass tobacco use over the next several years.

Illegal Grow Ops in Humboldt Being Targeted for Environmental Harm

Illegal Grow Ops in Humboldt Being Targeted for Environmental Harm

We recently released an article about how marijuana arrests are still a significant thing in the state of California. Despite medical marijuana being legal since 1996 and a very lenient regulation system surrounding it, it is not stopping the state or the national forest service from spending money to crack down on marijuana grows. Humboldt County has long been known for the delectable cannabis grown on its land and still to this day it is estimated that over 25% of the local economy stems from marijuana.
USA Today recently rode along with a team hired to go air bound and locate illegal cannabis grows in the area, many of which are located deep inside unpopulated parts of national forests. Many of the illegal grows that they are targeting are causing detrimental harm to the environment through deforestation and dumping fertilizer rich waste into rivers. Unfortunately, the large amounts of unpopulated areas in Humboldt county is a mecca for cultivators.
Due to the very lax and highly unregulated “legal” market in the state, it is hard for law enforcement to truly be able to target illegal grows thus they are starting to utilize environmental laws rather than criminal laws surrounding cannabis to come down on these harmful operations. A lot of the operations that are found in violation of environmental laws are illegal operations with plans to distribute cannabis illegally out of state rather than legally to the California medical marijuana industry.
This is a downside to the fact that prohibition is still highly in effect across the nation. If the prohibition of cannabis were to be eradicated like it should be, people could simply grow at home and essentially over a short period of time it would force out the mass majority of the black market. If people did not have to grow in fear, chances are their methods of cultivation would leave little to no harmful footprint on the environment.
The majority of the grows being targeted in California currently are all about money and they have had a significant negative impact on small family farms that have been thriving in the area for decades which are passionate about the land as well as the art of cultivating high-quality medicine. The Humboldt County government would like to see any illegal growers currently in the area transition into the legal market, however, they know that not all of the cultivators on their land want to thus the continued efforts to flush them out before they do more damage to the environment.

Responsible Use Denver Submits Signatures to Put Initiative on Novembers Ballot

Responsible Use Denver Submits Signatures to Put Initiative on November's Ballot

You can go into just about any town in America and locate a bar. Every day around 5 o’clock you can watch as people flock to these taverns to go in and enjoy a few cocktails to unwind from their day. You can also open up the news almost every day and find a story about how a drunk driver caused an accident which ended up taking the life of an innocent person. In states such as Colorado, Washington, and Oregon where cannabis consumers can purchase marijuana you will not find cannabis clubs where people can partake in a toke from a joint with friends to unwind from their day and that is a sad fact.
Science has shown that alcohol is significantly more dangerous than cannabis and it has also proven that alcohol drastically impairs your ability to drive whereas cannabis has little to no effect on an individual’s driving capabilities. One group in Denver Colorado is looking to change this and recently submitted over 8,000 signatures to be approved in hopes of putting their initiative on this November’s ballot.
Responsible Use Denver had the language of their initiative approved earlier this year and the team of 20 activists have been tirelessly working to obtain enough qualifying signatures to allow the residents in the city to vote on their initiative this fall. The initiative introduced by Responsible Use Denver aims to legalize the inception of private cannabis clubs where adults over the age of 21 can become a member and have a place to socialize with like-minded people while enjoying a toke.
The initiative put forth by Responsible Use Denver would allow for individuals over the age of 21 to apply for licensing to open a Private Cannabis Club. The stipulations include but are not limited to the following;

  • Applicants must be over the age of 21.
  • Private Cannabis Clubs can’t exist on the same premises as a bar or restaurant.
  • Private Cannabis Clubs can only be accessed by members that are 21 years of age or older.
  • Private Cannabis Clubs will not sell, distribute, or manufacture cannabis or marijuana-based products on their premises.
  • All consumption must take place in an enclosed area that is ventilated separately from any other existing areas.
  • Premises must be clearly marked with signage that notes the area can only be accessed by adults over the age of 21 and that the business is a Private Cannabis Club where cannabis may be consumed.

Snoop Dogg and NFL

Snoop Dogg Isn't Playing Around When it Comes to the NFL

Snoop Dogg is one who is always known for speaking his mind when it’s needed most. There has been an ongoing debate over the last several years regarding whether or not NFL players should be able to utilize marijuana. Despite the NFL’s lack of policy change for players regarding cannabis, one of their recent decisions has Snoop blazingly pissed off. After hearing that the NFL made a decision to allow NFL players to own guns and even went as far as to add gun responsibility to their player conduct training, he went to Instagram to let the NFL know just what he thought about it.
Anyone who has common knowledge regarding cannabis knows that NFL players could benefit substantially from being able to utilize marijuana for medicinal purposes. For some reason, the NFL thinks that players owning guns is more important than them being able to utilize a natural plant for medical applications. Snoop Dogg was also quick to point out that NFL players are already a little wired up and how cannabis can help ease their agitation.
In the past few years, there have been several NFL players including  Eugene Monroe and Ricky Williams that have come out of the cannabis closet and started to speak up for the players in the league regarding just how beneficial marijuana can be.
Eugene Monroe is reportedly the first active NFL player to have ever openly campaigned for legalizing the consumption of medical marijuana. Unfortunately after spending an off-season advocating for medical marijuana and spreading knowledge about how NFL players could benefit from cannabis, he was released from his position as an offensive tackle with The Ravens. Despite being released from the team, Eugene has no plans of stopping and has vowed to continue advocating until the league accepts “medical cannabis as a viable option for pain management.”
Leonard Marshall is former NFL player that is also speaking up about the benefits that players both in the league and retired can gain from cannabis. Being a former linesman for the NY Giants, Leonard knows firsthand the injuries that can come along with being a part of the league. Unfortunately, he also knows about just how quick an injury can turn into an addiction to opiates. This is why the former linesman is now advocating for the NFL to remove cannabis from their list of banned substances. He is also urging the league to invest money into research surrounding how cannabis can help combat traumatic brain injuries which are suffered by many players throughout the NFL.
If you would like to check out the original NSFW video posted on Instagram by Snoop, you can find it here.
