The Benefits of Using a Vaporizer for Marijuana

In recent years, the word ‘vape’ has entered the public consciousness in a big way. This is mostly due to the invention of electronic cigarettes and their popularity in countries with strict smoking laws. Yet, vaping is no new thing.
Marijuana smokers have been doing it for a long time with kooky looking gadgets and fantastical desktop contraptions. However, it wasn’t until recently that weed vaping became accessible to even the most casual partakers.
Marijuana smokers have been doing it for a long time with kooky looking gadgets and fantastical desktop contraptions. However, it wasn’t until recently that weed vaping became accessible to even the most casual partakers.
Getting to Grips with Vaporizing
It should come as no surprise, then, that the end goal is the same. It doesn’t matter whether you smoke joints or burn your weed in a vaping device, the aim is to get high.
If you’re in a country where marijuana is still illegal, vaping doesn’t change the fact, as some unlucky stoners are desperate to believe. What it does do – and you can judge the merits of this information – is make smoking much more subtle.
There is less smoke when you vape. The smell is minimal. And all the people around you can see is a cool device, with some fancy lights. Even in countries where weed is decriminalized, it’s just a very polite and civilized way to blaze.
So, what is a vaporizer? What do these little gadgets do?
Well, vaping devices heat up the marijuana in a sealed container. It can be added as dry herb or as a weed concentrate. In either case, the drug is heated but never burned. This is the big difference between vaping and smoking. At a certain temperature, the THC gets released, and you can puff on the end for a smooth, mellow high.
Vaporizers come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes. They range from the most expensive, ‘mad scientist’ looking machines to super portable, pocket-sized products. The question is, why should you vape?
If you already smoke your weed, what’s the benefit in switching to a burn free method?
The Real Benefits of Vaporizing Your Weed
Reduces Harmful Toxins
Though marijuana may be a lot less risky to smoke than tobacco, it isn’t some pure and cleansing substance. Burning the herb releases over a hundred toxins and, yes, some of them have been linked to the growth of cancer cells.
The good news is vaporizing doesn’t burn the weed, so these toxins are never released. This makes vaping your weed a significantly healthier way to get high.
According to a number of medical studies, the effects of vaping are largely the same, but the consequences are not. So, making the switch is good for your health.
Easier on Your Lungs
There is a distinct lack of research on long-term vaping and its effects on the lungs. So, we don’t know for certain whether this method of smoking is safe or any safer than burning.
Nevertheless, deductions can be made, based on how vaporizers work. Many experts believe it has to be a safer option because you’re not breathing in all those nasty chemicals.
In theory, it should be much gentler on the lungs and help to prevent many of the problems suffered by long-term weed and tobacco smokers. If you are concerned about your health or you just dislike the tastes and aromas produced by burning, it’s worth giving vaping a try.
Not only does it eliminate both of these gripes, but it is also kinder to the lungs and airways.
Better Pain Relief It’s important to remember that smoking marijuana is more than a recreational pastime. Hundreds of thousands of people, all around the world, consume the drug as a way to soothe pain and chronic sickness.
Vaping can be a huge asset for these people because smoking is not always an easy thing to do when you’re sick. Plus, it’s counterintuitive to take something that’s good for you in a way that causes different kinds of harm.
So, vaporizers are very popular with those who consume weed as a form of pain relief. It is an easier method of dosing, and it provides an almost instant physiological response.
When you’re sick or in pain, speed is of the essence. You want a quick high, but one that is also even and enjoyable. It shouldn’t come on too heavy or feel overwhelming. This is what vaping your weed delivers, whether you’re consuming for pleasure or necessity.
No Unwanted Side Effects
According to a comprehensive study, vaping ranks the highest for side effect satisfaction. This means there are fewer unwanted or unpleasant side effects when vaporizing, as compared with smoking marijuana.
Perhaps most importantly, those who vaped described themselves as significantly more functional. They reported a clearer-headed high, as opposed to the fuzziness that often comes with smoking.
It’s also easier to vape than it is to smoke, particularly if you’re not accustomed to either. Vaporizing can be achieved in short, shallow puffs, whereas smoking tends to require long, deep breaths. This is why rookies can end up with a bad cough when trying marijuana for the first time.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning the efficiency of vaping your weed. Less marijuana is needed to generate the same highs, so it’s economical too. Even things like tea and edibles require the use of a lot more herb to get suitably baked.
Vaporizers On The Market
There are many vaporizers on the market to choose from. There are a 2 main types of vaporizers.
Desktop vaporizers and portable vaporizers.
Desktops are vaporizers that draw electricity from a wall plug and are meant for at home use.
A popular example of a desktop vaporizer is the Volcano by Storz and Bickel.
Portables are devices that draw power from a portable battery and can be used on the go.
An example of a portable vaporizer is the Atmos 5G.
If you’re looking to purchase a vaporizer, read the in-depth vape reviews at websites like iMarijuanit.

More Reasons Why Vaping Your Weed Is Worth a Try
Everybody is different, of course. What works for one person might feel utterly alien and unenjoyable for another. So, it’s important to follow your own path and only try things that you’re comfortable using and consuming.
If you’ve never tried vaping before, but you’d like to experiment, it’s probably best to buy a cheaper device at first. That way, you can get used to the method of smoking and decide if investing in a high-quality vaporizer is the right choice.

Cannabis Addiction by Teenagers

Cannabis is the illicit drug most likely to be used by U.S. teens. There is evidence suggesting that more than 40 percent of 12th graders reported having used it once in their lifetime. With the drug considered illegal by the federal government, the use is limited to medicinal purposes, and here’s what we know about its effectiveness.
Cannabis affects people differently as they age. The recent limited findings suggest that the older a person is, the safer it is to consume cannabis. But what about teens – can they become addicted? Can medicinal cannabis help young patients with severe illnesses like cancer and epilepsy?
Let’s answer these questions in this article.
Use of Medicinal Cannabis in Children
The debate about the use of cannabis for medical purposes in children has been initiated only recently thanks to several reports describing its beneficial effect on epilepsy patients. One of the most recent ones involved Billy Caldwell, 11, who has been suffering from severe epilepsy. He obtained the first ever NHS prescription for medical marijuana in California, where it’s legal, because he could not do it in Northern Ireland.
According to Billy’s parents, the results of the oil-based medicine that is especially rich in cannabidiol (CBD) was “incredible,” and they had no choice but to fly to the U.S. and get it to help their son. A similar drug, oral cannabis oil, has been used by Mykayla Comstock, 7, who was diagnosed with leukemia. Her mother says that the drug helped Mykayla to go into cancer remission.
Short terms effect of cannabis use such as increased appetite and decreased depression helped a 16-year-old Lauren Scott, who has been fighting undifferentiated soft tissue sarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer. After trying many drugs, she turned to CBD-rich oil as well, and found it effective to manage the pain and improve mood.
At this point, it is clear that the states which legalized medicinal cannabis allow various patients to treat their diseases and conditions. But what about addiction?
Is It Possible to Become Addicted?
The answer to this question once again emphasizes the need for a serious approach. Indeed, it is possible for teens to become addicted to cannabis. In fact, the data presented by the National Institute on Drug Abuse suggested that about 9 percent of cannabis users become addicted but the percentage increases among those who begin young (to about 17 percent).
This problem is also exacerbated by the fact that no medications are currently available to treat cannabis addiction. There are only some easing the withdrawal and blocking its intoxicating effects. The scientists exploring this issue have produced some limited studies, but it’s already possible to make some preliminary conclusions.
What Does the Science Say?
A heavy use of cannabis presents a number of problems for adolescents. For example, a study published last year in Development and Psychopathology suggested that those smoking cannabis as early as 14 perform poorer on some cognitive tests and drop out of school at a higher rate.
However, the researchers explained these results by saying that “the effects of cannabis use on verbal intelligence are explained not by neurotoxic effects on the brain but rather by a possible social mechanism.” This mechanism suggested that teens using cannabis heavily are less likely to attend school, which in turn has an impact on their ability to develop verbal intelligence.
What Should You Do if Teen Smokes Cannabis
Whatever you do, avoid severe punishment because this way you’re setting them up to become regular smokers. The best way to approach this problem is to talk openly about the problem and try to establish a bond of trust. After that, it’s all about consistent monitoring.
Conclusions
While some evidence suggests that cannabis may be effective for relieving epilepsy and cancer symptoms, its efficacy should be carefully evaluated over the long-term. At this point, it is clear that cannabis may have significant adverse effects, including addiction, so neglecting the risks is certainly a bad idea.

My Favorite Strains Ghost OG Weedist

The Weekly Strain Breakdown: Ghost OG

The Balanced Ghost

Ghost OG is a well-balanced hybrid strain that leans towards indica. The true origins of Ghost OG is debatable within the cannabis community. However, everyone will agree that one of Ghost OG’s parents is the mother of all Kush’s, OG Kush.
Ghost OG could be derived from OG Kush and an Afghani strain. Another possibility is that the Ghost is mixed between OG Kush and a Triangle Kush. Whichever parents Ghost OG is derived from, the qualities of this strain are unique. OG strains usually have a piney taste and Ghost has a lemon taste.
This is an award-winning strain. Cultivators known as, The Clinic, from Colorado entered their strain of Ghost OG in 2013. It won 3rd place at the High Times Cannabis Cup under the Medical Hybrid category.

How Ghosts are Madecoco coir

Ghost OG looks like a Kush, tastes like a Kush and grows like a Kush. This strain might be too difficult for a beginner grower to try and tackle on. It is a bit finicky, but with enough TLC, Ghost OG grow and produce amazingly tasty buds.
This is a truly sturdy strain. It can grow indoors and outdoors and can tolerate cooler nighttime temperatures. The Ghost prefers temperatures between 65 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the humidity low and feed heavily using calcium and magnesium.
The big dense nugs on the stem are susceptible to bud rot. That is why it is better to grow this strain outdoors if or when the humidity is high. Using compost tea helps the plant fight against powdery mildew.

How Ghosts Can Help

Ghost OG is a strong hybrid that offers wonderful effects that both medical and recreational smokers enjoy. After a few puffs, many agree that they feel relaxed, happy, euphoric, uplifted and hungry. This is a strain that makes smokers feel positive and hungry.
Medical patients look for these strains because Ghost OG provides benefits other than a feel-good euphoria. Many patients say they feel relief from stress, pain, lack of appetite, depression and insomnia. And the Ghost doesn’t just stop there. It also provides relief for more serious conditions such as ADD/ADHD, anxiety, chronic pain, headaches, migraines and PMS.
This strain is great for people struggling with muscle and joint stiffness. Ghost OG helps users relax enough to provide relief for rheumatoid arthritis as well as a great pre-workout routine.

Ghost OG can be a Little Scary

There are a few negatives associated with Ghost OG. But most of it is easily preventable and easy to deal with. The most common complaint is dry mouth. The cure is simple when it comes to feeling like there’s a bunch of cotton balls in your mouth. Make sure you have a cool glass of water nearby to combat the cotton balls.
Other people have complained about dry eyes. But the cure for that is simple too. Purchase your favorite brand of eye drops and that will do the trick. Other not so common complaints include anxiousness, paranoia and headaches.
These symptoms are preventable. Smokers need to realize that this Ghost is a strong strain. And the stronger the strain the more powerful the effects are. The best method to smoke this strain is to watch those dosages. Take a few puffs then put it down and wait a few minutes.

A Sweet and Sour Ghost

Ghost OG is a great smelling and tasting herb. Crack open a nug and it’s like breaking open an orange. The smell is sweet, citrus and earthy.
It tastes just as good as it smells. People say that the taste is reminiscent of strong and sweet oranges. After exhale, expect an earthy undertone.
Ghost OG is better to enjoy during the mornings as a wake-n-bake. The aches and pains subside while allowing smokers to go out and enjoy the day. For those who enjoy early morning exercise regimes, this phenotype lets smokers enjoy yoga and stretches without feeling constrained by usual aches and pains.

Have you tried some Ghost OG? What was your experience when smoking Ghost OG? Was Ghost OG easy to grow or difficult? Let us know in the comments down below.

New TSXV Listing INDIVA Ltd a Medical Cannabis Company

The INDIVA LTD. Public Listing could happen as early as Monday December 11th 2017, as the expected closure of the Rainmaker Resources Ltd (V:RIR) reverse takeover could occur on Friday.  The public listing name will subsequently change to INDIVA Limited.
Based in London, Ontario, INDIVA’s facilities are great to look at.  Clean and secure is an understatement, but looks can only say so much.  When INDIVA Ltd. contracted me to report on their cannabis production company I was overjoyed.  I have been tracking the rise of Canadian cannabis for some time and am ready to share my INDIVA Ltd. experience with my fellow Canadian investors.
INDIVA is all about their methodical planning and on-point execution.  The brand focus is on strain genetics, product quality and client care.  Their “good growth” philosophy applies to the business as well as the product and extends from the board of directors on down.  After my initial interview, I was intrigued to say the least, as to how this company aiming to be the best, was set to go about getting there.

It seems the licenced cannabis industry is currently one large mergers and acquisitions arena.  There is no shortage of M&A interaction in all aspects of cannabis production.  So much so that it seems to be one large interwoven web, with companies fighting to become the biggest and most capable producer in the game.  For example, Aurora (ACB) recently aimed a take-over bid at CanniMed (CMED), while at the same time CanniMed (CMED) was busy integrating Up Cannabis Inc. by acquiring its parent company, Newstrike (V.HIP).  CanniMed (CMED) even went live on a webcast on November 20th 2017 to brand its newest acquisition the birth of a “Premiere Global Cannabis Company”.  All the while they were fighting off the hostile take-over bid from Aurora (ACB).  This type of action makes one wonder how these companies are able to keep their branding consistent and also ensure product quality so that consistency doesn’t suffer.
In the beginning, many pioneering cannabis companies set out in uncertain climates to say the least.  Long term planning was near impossible if the company wanted to stay competitive.  The result was that companies who could secure opportunistic equity and leverage market movements the fastest, turned out to be the “winners”.  Now these same companies are scrambling to find scalable investment opportunities that enable them to make use of the easy supply of investment cash they have access to.  This has led many companies into resorting to going after quick returns by converting low grade flower to cannabis concentrates. This is also a way to combat the quality control issues that arose from varied and diversified production facilities.
Even with these large companies out in front, newer companies are still finding ways to enter the industry by avoiding the pitfalls experienced by those before them.  In short, focusing on concise long-term planning which utilizes the market gaps that allow for easier entry points.  By skipping over the rush to achieve the largest economies of scale through mergers and acquisitions, these companies are taking it slow and making all the right moves to expand without putting product quality in jeopardy.  After all, repeat customers can separate a business from it’s competitors and allow for sustainable growth.
Due to the equity driven M&A frenzy that has gripped the industry, it is rare to see many quiet growth companies being publicly traded, especially with a D/E ratio high enough to be noticed.  One such company is Supreme (V:FIRE) at 0.62 D/E ratio held two quarters in a row. Supreme prides itself on taking the “high road” by providing only high quality cannabis, even though the cost is higher than the big boys at $2.50/gram.  This is a tactic that could end up paying off because many larger producers have switched to gathering immediate returns on turning low cost flower into concentrates.  This has left a large gap in the market that smaller companies can fill with high quality dried cannabis flower.  One part of INDIVA Ltd.’s strategy seems to be taking a similar approach, as the company anticipates equity investors will see the unrealized value from returns left by the gaps being created in the market.  INDIVA Ltd. knows what it wants to do with its investment capital, unlike many larger producers who have run out of expansionist plays to chase.  INIDIVA Ltd. knows that slow and steady often wins the race, especially when looking at branding and growth long term.  However, the best play for investors is to find a company that benefits from short term mergers and acquisitions as well as long term brand growing.  INDIVA Ltd. ticks a lot of investors boxes because the company has a detailed plan and is ready to produce high quality product to provide a client first brand.  At the same time, with their facilities already at scale, the property (and company) are an ideal buy-out target once the market begins to roll.  INDIVA Ltd. seems like a great cannabis company for investors to watch and consider making a play on.

Vaporizing Buds vs Vaporizing Concentrates

Vaporizing Buds vs Vaporizing Concentrates

As medicinal and recreational marijuana laws continue to improve, we see more advancements in the way we utilize cannabis.
New vaporizers are being released every day around the world. We have all come a long way from having to smoke cannabis through a pipe or in a joint. That’s not to say that you can’t still do it the old school way, but vaporizers offer users several benefits that you just can’t get from smoking marijuana the old way. Ultimately, what you choose will depend a lot on the amount of money you’re willing to spend, and your personal vaping preferences. Let’s have a look at some of the pros and cons!
There is still a pretty intense debate going on between vapers in favor vaporizing buds or flowers, and those that prefer vaporizing concentrates like oils and wax. It’s hard to define pros and cons of vaporizing concentrates over vaporizing buds and flowers.
When you vape buds, you’ll notice that there is bud leftover in the tank or clearomizer after you’ve finished. How much of this leftover bud is any good is always hard to determine. For most vapers, they have their system and method down to an art form, but when you’re first starting it can be hard to determine what’s waste and what isn’t. Vaporizing buds requires a certain heat, not as high as concentrates otherwise you’ll start combusting your buds which you don’t want. Once you’re done, you empty the chamber, and you’re ready to go again.
If you’re vaping a lot of concentrates, you’ll notice the wicking system gets clogged and dirty. You can try cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol, but eventually, you’re going to have to replace it. This is an added expense to vaping concentrates which you won’t encounter with vaping buds. Some vapers believe that they get more out of the oils and concentrates because as the name suggests, they’re concentrated.
Ultimately what you choose will be your personal preference. Try each method, speak to friends, have a look online, and make an informed decision for yourself. Both methods help to get you the result you’ve been looking for, but each varies slightly in delivery.

Chemotherapy and Cannabis Treatment

Chemotherapy and Cannabis Treatment

Cancer affects almost 40% of the population.

Chemotherapy is a part of many peoples lives, including children. A 2014 study estimated that 15,780 children and teens learned what it means to have cancer that year. That same study found that 1,960 also died from the disease. The remaining 13,820 children had to receive treatment. Most elect for some form of radiation or chemotherapy if surgery isn’t an option.
Anecdotal (evidence based on personal observations and experience) evidence about the effectiveness of cannabis in treating cancer is strong. So strong that there are many studies trying to disprove their claims. Yet the studies consistently (for many types of cancer) show concrete evidence supporting the claims.
It is through these scientific studies that we have learned that cannabis is a powerful phytonutrient and antiseptic. Studies also prove that cannabis is linked to tumor reduction and apoptosis. Specifically in breast, lung, prostate, colon cancer but a variety of others are under consideration as well.

Thousands of people use cannabis in conjunction with chemotherapy.opioid treatment

Not everyone uses it the same way though. There are a variety of ways canna-consumers incorporate it into their treatment. From Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) to edibles and micro-dosing, the world of cannabis does not require a pipe or patchouli oil. If cannabis is a treatment you decide to use, it doesn’t mean you have to be a stereotypical stoner.
Every cancer journey is unique. After diagnosis, it is up to YOU to determine the path you take. Traditional cancer therapy (chemo, radiation or surgery) is part of standard protocol. But certain cancers may require a combination of methods to properly remove.
Cannabis can play many roles in treatment. Research shows that cannabis is a great adjunct for system relief and healing after invasive procedures. While a typical course of chemotherapy significantly reduces overall immune system function, using cannabis supports quick recovery.

Cannabis provides verifiable symptom relief.

Multiple studies prove that cannabis provides symptom relief of chemotherapy. An Israeli study recently followed 200 traditionally-treated cancer patients. They found that cannabis use led to “significant improvements” in symptoms overall, including the symptoms and immediate side effects of  chemotherapy.
According to the National Cancer Society (NCS), cannabis may help relieve a myriad of side-effects from chemo. These include: nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, itchiness and rash, nerve damage and pain associated with neuropathy. Not to mention their positive effects on generalized pain, and emotional imbalance and mood issues, including anxiety and depression.
In addition to whole plant or natural extracts, the FDA approved Dronabinol to treat “some conditions.” Known by the drug name Marinol, this synthetic cannabinoid treatment is considered less effective than organic cannabis. It also has certain ‘unique’ side effects like neurologic issues and possible seizures.

Cannabis rarely interferes with treatment.landrace 2

Traditional oncologists may discourage using cannabis while on chemo or radiation treatments. They may claim it could interfere with the treatment and suggest abstaining. It is important to listen to healthcare professionals but treatment is a personal choice.
It is important to remember that thousands of people use cannabis in conjunction with other treatments. Most individuals experience no negative side effects on their treatment. In fact, physicians in medical marijuana states often recommend using cannabis.
In a recent article for Newsweek, Dr. Donald Abrams, Chief of Hematology-oncology at San Francisco General Hospital said “I could write six different prescriptions, all of which may interact with each other or the chemotherapy that the patient has been prescribed,” He followed up by saying “Or I could just recommend trying one medicine.” referring to medical marijuana.

Marijuana acts synergistically with our bodies to promote healing.

The hardest part about chemotherapy is the toll it takes on the body. The majority of people who undergo treatment experience reductions in immune system function. This reduction can last anywhere from months to years after treatment finishes.
A 2016 article in the journal Breast Cancer Research reported that chemotherapy led to long-term changes in the immune system. These changes included lower than average levels of lymphocytes and natural killer cells (also known as NK cells, K cells and killer cells). These are main elements of the immune system and it’s their job to destroy pathogens like cancer cells.
Modern science has revealed that humans have a special element in our immune system. Called the endocannabinoid system, it helps the body achieve homeostasis and balance. Animals without this system (like insects or birds) don’t process THC or other cannabinoids so gain no benefit from using them.

How does the endocannabinoid system interact with cancer?Landrace Strain 1

In addition to providing a boost to recovery and immune system health, cannabinoids interact with the body in many ways. Cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system (called CB1 and CB2 cells) effect everything from hunger to tumor production.
A decrease in endocannabinoids may increase cancer cell tumor production. Researches in a 2008 preclinical trial conducted tests with colon cancer cells at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas. Their research indicates that cannabinoids have a preventative effect on certain types of cancer.
In addition to reducing cancer cell development, cannabinoids seem to calm the immune system and offer anti-inflammatory properties. This is a key part of healing under any circumstances but is especially important when dealing with cancer. Cannabinoid interactions also show increases in immune-system function.

Oncologists see the benefits of medical marijuana.

Medical marijuana is gaining ground nationally. Oncologists and patients can see the benefits and challenges of integrating cannabis into treatment. Over a fifteen years ago, Harvard conducted a study where 44% of traditional oncologists advised marijuana use. A more recent study found almost half of the physicians surveyed supported medical marijuana.
These studies combine to show that patients have more options than ever. While many hospitals still ban doctors from prescribing/recommending  medical marijuana, that number is decreasing. Thanks to scientific studies proving the efficacy of medical marijuana and the ceaseless efforts of the community, there are more options than ever.

Do you use cannabis during chemotherapy?

Did your doctor advise against it? What is your story and how did cannabis fit into it? let us know in the comments below and help others draw strength. Thanks for reading.

Romulan 1

The Weekly Strain Breakdown: Romulan

Named after the hostile alien race from Star Trek, this strain will punch you in the face and knock you down, but not out. Romulan is a strong indica-dominant hybrid that is highly sought after for its strong effects and therapeutic qualities. That is why it clocks in at about 75% indica and 25% sativa.
This North American Indica and White Rhino mix was featured in several magazines such as High Times, Skunk and Cannabis Culture. Now it’s gaining popularity in British Columbia and across the Pacific Northwest. It was originally created in Victoria, B.C. Since then has become a North American favorite.

Growing Romulan MonstersRomulan

Romulan is a little difficult to grow. This is because it requires some TLC. Expect this strain to grow medium in height and stretch a bit toward the end of its growing cycle.
It can grow indoors and outdoors and prefers the SOG or SCROG method. This strain requires lots of airflow. It’s recommended that growers space their plants to prevent damage from mold and pests.
This strain tolerates colder climates but it does like temperatures between 68 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It also likes dry environments. This one is an eater, feel free to provide this strain with heavy amount of food. Diversify its nutrients to boost its immune system. After 8 weeks expect your plants to yield moderate to high yields.

Romulan Medicine

Medical and recreational users enjoy this strain because of its deep sedating effects and intoxicating properties. It relaxes muscles and treats nerve damage. Many strains that were created with Romulan still provide a full body calm.
Many agree that the biggest sensation they feel when smoking this strain is relaxed. Followed by feelings of happiness, sleepy, uplifted and euphoric. For those struggling with pain, stress, insomnia, muscle spasms and depression Romulan provides a comforting relief.
This strain also helps alleviate serious medical conditions. Medical patients seek out Romulan if they are struggling with anxiety, chronic aches and pains, stomach issues, PTSD and lupus. There are a few negative effects associated with this strain but they only require simple fixes. Dry mouth is cured with water and dry eyes are cured with eye drops. The rest of the problems are preventable by keeping an eye on dosages.

The Romulan Wayromulan

Romulan is a short growing flower with piney scents. So its buds are dense and completely covered in frosty resin. Many would agree that it smells earthy, sweet and piney. It tastes just like it smells, piney and sweet.
This strain is best used during the evening. And not during an engaging activity. “…Not the smartest idea to take my portable vaporizer loaded up with this particular strain to a bowling alley… I quickly lost interest in the repetitiveness of throwing a heavy ball.” Says Romulan enthusiast, Brian.

Have you smoked Romulan? Does this strain make your face feel like it’s changing to look like the face of a Romulan? What was your experience like growing this strain? Is this strain easy to find? Let us know in the comments below.

Headband 2

The Weekly Strain Breakdown: Headband

Headband is potent hybrid. It is a popular strain that can easily be found in California. It is a cross between Sour Diesel, Master Kush and OG Kush.
The cannabis community is at odds when it comes to labeling whether this strain is more sativa or indica dominant. Some suggest that Headband is a sativa-dominant hybrid because of the OG lineage. The high that this strain produces also suggests that this is a sativa-dominant strain.
Headband provides a very heady high. Many would agree that it feels like there is a slight pressure wrapping around the crown of the head. Like wearing a headband.

How to Grow Headband Headband

This strain is difficult to grow because it requires training the plants to improve yields. This is due to the popcorn looking buds that this strain produces. It can grow in hydroponics or by using the SCROG method. It can grow indoors and outdoors but prefers temperatures between 68 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
This phenotype is a dainty eater. It is recommended that growers pay close attention when it comes to feeding this type of strain. Growers need to make sure that they are not under feeding their plant and that they are not burning their plant.
The plant will be ready for harvest within 9 to 10 weeks. Expect medium to low yields, which can be improved with proper training and nutrients. If grown indoors the yields also improve. During flower time, the garden will exude a strong diesel like aroma.

Don’t Headband and Drive

The high associated with this strain makes people feel foggy and spacy. It is a creeper weed that takes a few minutes for people to start feeling its effects. Smokers will start to stare off into space and then snap back into reality wondering what just happened. Many people reported feeling happy, relaxed, euphoric, uplifted and creative after a few puffs of Headband.
This strain also provides relief from medical issues. Some of these issues are relief from stress, pain, depression, headaches and fatigue. Medical patients found this strain useful for combating migraines, muscles spasms and to help improve appetite. Most people complain about dry mouth when smoking Headband. But having a cool refreshing beverage nearby or bubble gum helps combat that issue.
Dry eyes are another common complaint, but the cure for dry eyes is eye drops. Other negative effects include headaches, paranoia and dizziness. Keep an eye on dosages and all will be well. Remember, Headband is a strong creeper weed and the high lasts for hours. Keep calm and lay back if the high becomes too much to handle.

A Sickly-Sweet Herbheadband

When opening a jar of Headband, expect a waft of skunkiness and pine. The smoke will be thick but it provides a smooth creamy citrusy taste on inhale. On exhale, expect a chemically diesel like taste. The lingering aftertaste in your mouth tends to remind people of lemon scented cleaners.
When loading a bowl, it is difficult to break apart. The buds are covered in white trichomes and are very sticky. It is better to use a grinder to break up these buds instead of using fingers. You’ll just end up squishing and flattening your weed if you use your fingers.
Headband is a strain that provides a sense of relaxation, mild creativity and an intoxicating good time. It is recommended that smokers enjoy this strain in the evening. This is because the head high tends to trickle down a person’s body and create a wonderful body buzz. It is also considered an aphrodisiac.

Have you smoked Headband? What was your experience like? Did you enjoy the taste of this strain? Was is difficult to grow or easy? Let us know in the comments below.

3 Nutrients Every Grower Needs To Know

Growers need to understand their plants.

There is a lot to know when it comes to nutrients. It can take decades to learn how to properly prevent, identify, and treat pests and problems. And as technology continues to advance at breakneck speeds, constant learning is required for even the most knowledgeable cultivator.

But a PhD in biochemistry isn’t necessary to grow marijuana. Generations of humans have utilized soil, water, and sun to  grow their plants. But nature is fickle and never gives up her bounty willingly. Fluctuations in weather and climate make keeping the correct balance difficult.

So modern farmers utilize greenhouses and indoor gardens to help stabilize the mix of elements. This leads to a more consistent and bountiful crop but also increases the knowledge required to keep the system in balance. Failure to fulfill or adapt to the plants changing needs results in dead plants.

It takes certain levels of specific nutrients to grow healthy plants.

Just like human bodies, plants need specific nutrients at specific times. The basic building blocks of any plant are Nitrogen, Phosphate, and Potash (commonly abbreviated as NPK). Once dissolved into water, these chemicals provide the structure and propel the chemistry plants depend on to live.

Plants use NPK to develop strong stalks, transport chemicals and especially to produce new growth. This means that growers must feed a steady supply to the plant throughout the growing process. But care must be taken to avoid providing too much at once as well.

If the levels of any nutrient rise to high, the plants essentially lock-out that chemical and generally suffer. When growing cannabis, this can lead to stunted plant growth and low harvest weights. Because of that, most growers rely on a nutrient system.

The right mix changes over time.Landrace Strain 1

Cannabis goes through three main stages of growth: Clone/seedling, vegetative and flower. In the clone or seedling stage, plants need mostly water since the initial nutrients for life are contained in the seed. Clones have the added need of a rooting solution like honey or Atomic Root Powder to stimulate root growth.

But the plant quickly develops into the vegetative (veg) stage. During this stage, the plant uses the most nitrogen but little phosphorus and potash. This is when you get the most growth and this stage lasts until the plant enters flower.

Once the flowering stage begins, the amount of nitrogen the plant needs drops dramatically. But building big, beautiful buds requires a lot of phosphorus and especially potassium. The standard rule of thumb is to have twice as much potassium as nitrogen in the growing media at this time.

Not all nutrients are the same.

Because science is a thing, people have developed multiple nutrient systems. Companies like Advanced Nutrients, Vegamatrix and Dakine 420 all produce their own lines of nutrients. Each company also offers a slight variation to the ratios and concentration of the mix. Just be sure to pH balance after adding your nutrients.

Advanced Nutrients provides a liquid three-part system. They also offer a massive index of individual micronutrients that the curious can use to tweak their plants growth. This is like the equipment designed for astronauts; high tech and with more buttons than people know what to do with.

Vegamatrix uses a three-part system of liquid nutrients. They also offer additional micronutrient solutions with a focus on non-GMO sources. This system is akin to shopping at a farmers market where processed elements are completely absent.

Dakine 420 goes with a four-part system of powder nutrients. This system includes all of the micronutrients needed for vibrant growth but the company also provides rooting powder as part of the base system. It’s like an Olympic athletes diet that has been fine-tuned over generations.

Powders offer a big advantages.

Nutrients

There is a long-standing debate over the efficacy of liquid versus powder nutrients. But long-term studies show that both forms are used by plants equally. This means that farmers are free to choose the system that fits their needs best instead of which form is more effective.

The initial reason to choose powdered nutrients is the weight savings during shipping and subsequent storage. Liquid nutrients are concentrated but still contain large amounts of water. Many micronutrient solutions can have almost 90% water. But powders ship only the active ingredients, saving massive amounts of money on shipping and storage, especially for large commercial operations.

Powders are also significantly more stable. Fluid nutrients can ‘go bad’ after a few months. Liquids can dry out, settle and separate while powders remain stable over time. There is a chance for clumping with powders but usually only if water or other liquid is introduced to the mix.

Just don’t forget the order of operations.

Most indoor cannabis cultivators are growing hydroponically. Because of this, the vast majority of nutrients are designed for these systems. Most liquid nutrients come in two parts because they contain elements that can precipitate out.

Mixing chemicals in the wrong order or concentration can cause the them to bind with other nutrients. When this happens, the plants are no longer able to absorb them freely. For this reason, it is incredibly important to mix nutrients in the order the manufacturer suggests. But don’t follow the instructions blindly and overfeed.

Overfeeding is a rookie mistake that can lead to plant damage or even death. Because of this, most experienced growers suggest starting any new nutrient line at about 25%-50% of the potency the manufacturer recommends. Then only increase the potency if the plant appears to be struggling.

The Weekly Strain Breakdown: AK-47

AK-47 is a sativa-dominant hybrid that was created in 1992 by Serious Seeds. This strain has a strong lineage. It is a mix between South American, Mexican, Thai and Afghani strains. This strain is 65% sativa and 35% indica.
Its beginnings may have started way back since the 1970’s. That was the time of the post-war era. And during that time this strain was a simple cross between Thai and Afghani strains. It was reinvented in 1992 by Serious Seeds. And in 1999, it was super crossed to produce uniform seeds.
In lab tests, THC contents scores are generally high. Its highest THC test contents was at 20%. The CBD contents are generally around 1.5%. Winner of several world-wide cannabis awards for its strong and long-lasting THC effects.

How AK-47 GrowsAK-47

AK-47 seeds can be moderately difficult to grow because of how much TLC this strain requires. Expect this strain to grow huge and develop buds that are just as big. It has great bag appeal. The fluffy buds are dark, yellow and green with red hairs that are covered in heavy amounts of crystals.
This phenotype can grow indoors and outdoors. However, most cultivators prefer to grow this strain indoors in soil or hydro. It likes the sea of green method, and create an even canopy by cutting the tops and trellising them. The large buds are prone to bud rot so they need to be constantly check up on. AK requires lots of feeding at first and then a complete flush right before harvest.
An air filtration system is recommended because the scent this plant gives off is incredibly pungent. It’ll do best in temperatures of 75 degrees. Indoors, expect to be ready to flower in eight to nine weeks. Outdoors, expect to harvest by the middle of October. After some TLC, expect to harvest yields between 350 and 500 grams.

A Few NegativesLandrace Strain 1

There are a few negatives associated with this strain. But it’s nothing that can’t be avoided or cured. One complaint that is most common is dry mouth.
Dry mouth is easy to fix. Before starting a smoke session, grab a nice cold glass of water. Basically, any refreshing beverage should do the trick. If a tasty beverage is not available, chewing on a piece of bubble gum keeps a mouth moist.
Other complaints that are not so common are dry eyes, dizziness, headaches and paranoia. When it comes to dry eyes, eye drops will fix that issue. Other symptoms are easily preventable by keeping a careful eye on these dosages. Take a few puffs then put it down and wait a few minutes.

The Pungent Weapon

Opening a bag or jar that contains this strain will completely fill up a room. A garden will carry this strain smell for miles. And smoking this strain will permeate though walls.
The taste is just as potent as the smell. It’ll have a sweet and sour taste on inhale. Expect a floral taste on exhale.
